I love sweets, but I’m not a massive fan of chocolate, so your standard chocolaty advent calendar really doesn’t cut it with me. Thankfully, for the last few years I have managed to avoid any chocolate because I’ve been lucky enough to have a gin advent calendar to tuck into instead!
Drinks by the Dram was launched in 2010 as a way of offering whisky enthusiasts and connoisseurs the opportunity to sample new releases of single malt Scotch whisky at a fraction of the cost of purchasing an entire bottle. Their range now includes over 6, 000 spirits, offering people the opportunity to “try before they buy” in the form of a 30ml sample bottle. 2012 saw the launch of their first advent calendar, offering a surprise spirit each day and helping people to find new favourites and rediscover old loves.
For the past few years I’ve had a That Boutique-y Gin Company Calendar, but this year I’m trying something different, with my daily ginny fix is coming in the form of Drinks by the Dram’s Premium Gin Advent Calendar. Behind each of the 24 doors is a 30ml, hand waxed dram of gin just waiting to be sipped, slurped, shaken or stirred in whatever form or fashion takes your fancy. This calendar contains some incredible gins from world-renowned distilleries and producers such as Hernö, Four Pillars, Bluecoat, Wildcat, Bathtub and Hendrick’s to name but a few.

Calendar prices start at a very reasonable £49.95 and would make a great early Christmas pressie, for someone else or for yourself…I mean, 2020 hasn’t been the best and in my eyes a little bit of early Christmas spirit really isn’t going to do any harm!
Remember to drink your advent calendar responsibly, goodness knows there have been times recently when I’ve wanted nothing more than to have a gin for breakfast. I would however strongly encourage you to enjoy this advent door opening at the end of each day, rather than the beginning…6pm drinking is far more acceptable than 6am drinking!!
