Well it’s certainly heating up isn’t it folks! I’ve spent the day at an incredible STEM event with some of the kids from school, came home to continue proof reading reports and now my brain pretty much resembles blancmange. So rather than pouring myself a nice simple G&T for some reason I decided to cocktail it up…Tuesday is the new Friday right? Or perhaps I’m just celebrating the fact that I didn’t manage to lose any children.
Anyhoo, this drink is deliciously refreshing and wreaks of summer, plus it’s really easy to make.

Gin Basil Smash
You’re going to need:
- A cocktail shaker
- 50 ml Gin (I went for Hendrick’s)
- A bunch of basil leaves
- 25 ml Fresh Lemon Juice
- 15 ml sugar syrup
- Ice
Pop your basil and lemon juice into your cocktail shaker and muddle it together. Next add in the gin, sugar syrup and ice, pop the lid on and give it a good vigorous shake to really “smash” it all together. Strain the liquid into a glass which is filled with ice. Garnish with some more fresh basil and enjoy!
I don’t think I perhaps used enough basil when making mine as it wasn’t perhaps as green as I expected but it tasted great. I guess it really all depends what you’re preference is and how much you want your drink to look like Kermit the Frog.
Happy cocktail times guys, let me know how you get on with this one.
