I’ve chosen to do a Gin Shot review on this specific flavour of gin from Belgian Spirits Company for one reason only, which is that I hate ginger…or at least I thought I did.
What on earth does ginger have to do with PJ apple gin? The lovely chap on the sample table at Gin Festival London told me this gin was best served with ginger ale…MY WORST NIGHTMARE! I am just not a fan of ginger, I know it starts with the word gin, and I know it’s really good for you, but it makes me gag a little and that is never a good thing.
Sod it, I thought, I’ll give it a go…down the hatch, readying the “oh yes, that’s so delicious” face whilst trying not to nostril flare and tense my neck which is a clear indication of my dislike. It tasted like apple pie and was so moreish I was actually quite taken aback. Great work PJ Apple Gin, I may be a ginger convert!
PJ Gin also offer a dry gin, and elderflower gin and a raspberry gin. All of which I happily enjoyed a taste of. Strangely the apple when paired with the ginger ale was my favourite. I’m a fan of citrus and berry, so I would have to say the raspberry was my favourite neat sample, with the elderflower and dry varieties both impressing me when served with tonic.
